Christmas Reflections

Updated: Feb 21, 2020

Christmas is here and as the year approaches the end and we look ahead to the new year and new decade, I've been thinking about where I want to go and how to progress my career forward.

My 2019 has been one I am very proud of, and looking back I can see how much more I hope to achieve going in to 2020.

My strengths are cameras and lighting- but just because you are strong in a particular field doesn't mean you should neglect it. I would say I am good at operating the camera, pull focus, framing, and I understand the settings, but I do feel... forgetful or unconfident sometimes in regards to the numbers and settings etc. And I think that will come with time and practice.

I do feel confident with lighting, and it is such a love of mine, so I would like to work with that more. Some areas I would really like to work on is lighting for dark scenes- I've noticed a lot of my work has been set in dark scenarios and is definitely an area I need to improve upon.

My weaknesses lie with editing and sound. Well, editing isn't necessarily a weakness but I would like to learn more on After Effects and to continue to build upon my Photoshop skills too! As for sound... urgh. It is not my favourite- I do understand it to some extent, and I understand it's importance to production. This is definitely an area I wish to put even more effort in to and learn more about. I find Foley so interesting and I have been hooked on ASMR videos, so maybe I'll try my hand at some of those?

So to sum up the strengths and weaknesses I will be working on in 2020 we have:

  • Camera settings

  • Lighting for the dark

  • After Effects

  • Photoshop

  • Audio

Alongside these continuing professional development plans I aim to continue to improve my business; expanding my website to include price packaging for Photography and Videography services, and I am also looking into an exciting addition which follows the eco-friendly route.

My past year has been great, but I hope to make next year even better and make more contacts, clients and friends.

Merry Christmas and have a happy, healthy and safe New Year.
